ATOS hosted the project kick-off meeting that took place on October 25-26.

The focus of the kickoff was to get to know the project partners, assure that all partners share the same vision of the project, and that initial work plans of all work packages (WP) and tasks fitted together.

The meeting was very successful, leading to a clear definition of the roadmap of all work packages and the decision to advance some experiments in the data acquisition and analysis pipeline for the first year of the project.

Second consortium meeting to be held at the IDMS premises in Frankfurt.

Third FIRST Consortium meeting in Bled, Slovenia.

The objective of the meeting is to asses the work done during the first seven months of the project and the development of the integrated prototype. A especial session to draft an exploitation strategy will be also held.

All project partners are invited to come the 3 days. The third day will be devoted to parallel sessions, so it is not mandatory for people not attending to those sessions.

The 4th consortium meeting will take place in Madrid in September 2011. Advisory Board members are invited to attend to the meeting in order to assess and give feedback of the status of the project.

The annual review of the project will take place on November 30 at the EC premises in Luxembourg. The day before, project partners will have a rehearsal in the same premises

FIRST is proud to announce the FIRST Industrial Worshop co-allocated in the plenary session of the ABI LAB Forum 2012, in Milan, Italy. The workshop took place on March 29, between 14:30 and 16:30. The videos of the FIRST Workshop can be seen at http://videolectures.net/firstworkshop2012_milano/

The ABI Lab Forum is the most important annual meeting of the ABI Lab Consortium which is the Banking Research & Innovation Centre promoted by the Italian Banking Association (ABI), with the aim of supporting the cooperation between banks, ICT Companies and Institutions on technological issues related to banking processes. The 2-day event is organized annually and it is now at its eight edition.

The Forum represents a meeting point and a milestone for banks and ICT companies in Italy to sum up outcomes of major research carried out along the year with particular attention to future trends and best practices of Organization, Security and ICT in banking

Apart from the main workshop session, FIRST was there the 2-days of the event in a separate room for demos and presentations. The FIRST Workshop on Thursday afternoon was composed of the following presentations:

  • “Web streams processing and other semantic technologies for Reputational Risk Measurement and Management in Banks”, Giorgio Aprile, Group Head of Operational Risk management , Banca Monte dei Paschi
  • “Breaking the mould: New approaches to capital markets surveillance”, Wolfgang Fabisch, Chief Executive Officer, b-next Engineering GmbH
  • "Retail Investments: Decision Support beyond traditional market information", Dr. Alexandra Winter, Business Analyst Product Development & Client Solutions, Interactive Data Managed Solutions AG
  • "Wisdom of the Crowds - What to make of web-based sentiment?”, Ulli Spankowski, Associate Director, Stuttgart Financial / BoerseStuttgart

During the workshop a simultaneous translation services (English/Italian) were provided.

A must read for those interested on the scope of the project from the financial (D1.1 and D1.2) and technical perspectives (D2.1). 

 

 

 

Highlight: D2.1 is a must-read for people interested in the latest trends large-scale information acquisition from unstructured resources, sentiment analysis and decision support in the financial domain.

The FIRST Consortium meeting in Slovenia has been a success, not only because of the quality of the presentations and demos, or of the presence of representatives of the Bank of Slovenia and Nova KBM, but for the beautiful city, landscape and bonding between the participants.

As part of our social media policy, we have launched the FIRST project LinkedIn group.

This is a group aimed mainly at professionals of the financial and research communities that wants to keep track and discuss on the developments made in FIRST.
